THE LIFE AND STRUGGLE OF LUTHER ROARK – A SHORT BIOGRAPHY
INTRODUCTION
. . . Luther Roark, as did his contemporaries, struggled in the effort to realize his self-concept; however, for him the struggle seemed to continue beyond his early adult years. He seemed to reject the opportunity of following in his father’s footsteps as a farmer and struggled to find for himself an occupation suitable to his liking. Luther was tall, slender, and quite handsome, readily considered as attractive by the young ladies with whom he associated. Yet he seemed to struggle with the idea of marriage and the possible responsibilities of fatherhood. He seemed to be reasonably happy at home with his parents, brothers and sisters, yet he seemed to long for new adventures and locations away from home. He appeared to learn quickly and the early years of school were easy for him, yet advanced schooling had no attraction to him. As he wrestled with his search for self, he had to face the most difficult struggle of all – the struggle against the ravages of a debilitating illness and the literal fight for life itself against overwhelming odds. His short life can be uniquely profiled as an uphill climb with few level plains or plateaus. This is the story of that uphill effort and of the struggles in the life of Luther Roark.
