The R-CA encourages all family members to document their family history. The following 20 questions can provide a start.
R-CA 20 Questions for Documenting Family History
- What is your full name?
- When and where were you born? Details: Time, Town, Date, House, Hospital, etc.
- What are you parents full names and date/place of birth/occupations?
- What are your grandparents full names and date/place of birth?
- What are your great grandparents full names and date/place of birth?
- How many brothers and sisters do you have? Please give a description of each one.
- Are you or were you ever married? Details, Who? When? Where? Date
- Do you have children? Details: What are their names?; Where were they born?; What are their ages?; Are they married?; Do they have children?
- Describe your education. Details: school(s), levels, degrees
- How do you describe yourself? Details: eye color, height, hair color, distinguishing features, health status, etc.
- What jobs did you hold?
- Where did you live? Details: city, state, house, apartment, address?
- Did you serve in the military? Details: When? What branch? etc.
- Do you have any political affiliation you would like to share?
- Do you follow any religious tradition you would like to share?
- Do you have any medical issues you would like to share?
- What have you learned over the years that you would like to share with the younger generation?
- Were you involved in sports, music, drama or other extra curricular activities?
- What are you most grateful for in your life?
- What haven’t we talked about that you would like to add?
